TBS Tips: Say Yes... to the shoes!

Traditionally, people view the dress as the most talked about and important part of a bride’s attire, but that may no longer be the case.  Although the dress may be what people initially see, many brides are looking to make a personal statement through their shoes!  Whether that be the most blinged-out heels or sparkly TOMS brides are going to all different lengths to find the perfect look for their ten-toed companions!   So, before you stress out about the dress consider making your shoes the main focal point of your outfit for he big day!

New Year's Eve Tablescape via The Bridal Solution :: Hello 2014

Last year, in 2012, we had a record number of visitors to our blog after our debut of our New Year's Eve Tablescape, Bridal Edition, found HERE.  And honestly, we're still swooning over how good the table and bride looked in this photoshoot ... seriously, it's some awesome goodness!

At the request of some of our loyal readers, we've been at it again!  Although it's not a bridal edition, this gold, bubbly inspired tablescape still takes our breath away!  We're also super excited that because this is in our home, we'll be able to enjoy the fruits of the labor by hosting a progressive dinner that evening with a few our our friends. We're dessert!!

Here's to a New Year, New Goals and More Inspiration in 2014!

I first want to thank everyone who joined in our LIVE Teleseries call last night titled: From Yes to I Do - Wedding Photography.  We had a great turnout and some really information Q&A's!  If you missed it, don't worry, the replay will be available next Tuesday.  We will continue this series next month as well, so join in next time if you haven't already!
So today I wanted to go over my top questions to ask your potential wedding photographer.  It is so important to ask the right questions, I can't stress that enough!  So ... I know you're all dying to find out ...
The Bridal Solution's Top 5 Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer Before You Book

5.  What is a Typical Wedding Day Like with You as a Photographer?
You will want to make sure you photographer captures the important moments with you.  You'll want an ease and flow to your wedding day, and you'll need to make sure your photographer is on board as well.  Go ahead, ask them what a typical wedding day is like for them!  If they are experienced, this will be an easy question!
4.  Will You be Shooting My Wedding Alone, or Will You Have A Second Photographer With You?
If it's in your budget, you most certainly want a second photographer their the day  of your wedding.  There is no possible way a single photographer can get all the important images.  Just think, do you want to choose between a photo of you walking down the aisle, or  your grooms face when he first sees you?  I didnt' think so!  Make sure there are at least 2 with you for the majority of the day!  You can thank me later! :)
3. What All is Included in Your Wedding Packages?
This question is important because you'll need to budget for photos.  When a photographer prices is lower than their competitors, you'll have to wonder.  Is it due to experience or is it that they are pricing on an a la carte option?  The longer the photographer has been in the business, the more experienced and educated they are.  Most likely, their price will show that.  If the photographer is basing everything a la carte, then you could be paying a higher price in the end.  There are a lot of back end pricing when it comes to photography, so it's better to get an upfront cost and ask what all is included at the very beginning!
2.  Do you Direct or Document More?
Basically you are wanting to figure out if the photographer likes to take more photos that are posed or more candid shots. It could be that they do a little bit of both.  Whatever they say, make sure their styles fits with your vision for wedding photos.

1.  Do You Carry Backup Equipment and Insurance for Each Wedding?
This is a must!  You want to make sure that they carry the equipment necessary to capture your day, and that they back it up.  Not a month after your wedding, but SOON after your wedding.  Can you seriously imagine having no weddings photos?  Make sure to ask this MOST important question!

The Bridal Solution's Top Things Brides Should Do During the Holidays

Happy Holidays!  Thank you all for making 2012 a year to remember!
Highlights of 2012:
1. Bridal University [coming back February 2014]
3. Traveling to Texas for a Texas-Sized Wedding!
4. Ringing in the New Year with STYLE!
It seems like the holiday's come faster and faster each year.  They sneak up on us, and by the time Christmas arrives, we are left in a whirlwind.  I know for me, the tasks I wanted to complete by New Year's are still on my desk untouched. AND, I bet you're feeling the same way.  In fact, how many of you put your wedding plans on the back burner over the break?  Instead, The Bridal Solution has come up with great tips to keep you having fun on the holidays and get your wedding plans on track!
The Bridal Solution's Top 5 Things Brides Should Do Over the Holiday's

5.  Throw a Wedding Party Soiree
Chances are you'll be hanging out with your close friends anyways during the holidays. Whether you are headed back to your hometown or ringing in the new year, celebrate your engagement with some or all of your Wedding Party!  It's a great chance to get them all together and introduce them if they haven't met before.  Most likely, they will be thrilled to start celebrating the wedding festivities early!

4.  Start Gathering and Organizing Address
If you're sending out Christmas Cards over the holidays, you might as well start collecting the addresses of guests.  Especially if you plan on sending out save-the-date cards.  Get both families involved too!

3. Shop
Yep, you heard right!  SHOP!  Do you know how many great deals go on during the holidays?  Go ahead, buy your wedding party gifts early, and check something off of your checklist!  Last year one of our brides scored monogrammed robes for each of her bridesmaids for only $10 each!  What a steal!

2. Menu Tasting
If you are not sure what you'll be serving for your reception dinner, why not test it out over the holiday's with your family and fiance?  Check out different restaurants who caterer, and pick and choose items on the menu that may pair well together.  You may be surprised what you come up with!

1. Hair & Makeup
Try out different hair styles and makeup techniques before you go to a holiday party!  We all go to so many celebrations, it's the perfect time to try them out.  Figure out what you like, and what would be easy to duplicate for your wedding day.  It's a win-win!

TBS Tip: How to Save on your F&B

When times are tough like they are now, it's hard to find couples who aren't on a budget. In fact, it just doesn't happen any more. The more couples I meet are trying to find ways to cut their costs, without having guests notice.

One of the largest cost in a wedding is the F&B [Food and Beverage.] Of course this cost goes up the more guests you have. So, if you are planning on having a decent size wedding, listen up ... here are some great tips to help lower your costs!

1. Outside Caterers - Find a venue who will allow you to bring in your own food and beverage. Places like hotels and resorts depend on food and beverages to off set their costs, so you will pay more for their food and services. But if you can find a venue who does not have a specific caterer, or allows you to bring in your own, you can cut the cost almost in half.

2. Pass on Appetizers - Forget the fluff. There is no reason your guests will need a lot to eat before your serve them dinner. Try not to make them wait too long, but if you can get away with it, skip the hors d’oeuvres. You're guests really wont notice, and it's an extra cost that can be cut. If you MUST have appetizers available for your guests, have them placed buffet style, and save the money would would have spent on having them passed by servers.

3. Scale Back your Menu - Instead of serving a duel entree, keep it simple. Select a meat, starch, veggie and choose an extra side. Your guests won't notice one bit. I do recommend having a vegetarian option available just in case though.

4. Serve Breakfast or Brunch - When the couple is on an extremely tight budget, I always recommend serving breakfast or brunch. It's fun anyways and will save you a ton of money. In fact, a couple of years back we planned a "Breakfast at Tiffany's Wedding" were we served eggs Benedict and mimosas. It was fabulous!

5. Kids Meals - Make sure if you are hosting families with small children that you give them another meal option. They don't want to eat a big steak and salad. Instead, select something like chicken fingers or macaroni and cheese. It will save you in the long run!

6. Stick with Cake - Don't worry about having a fancy dessert bar, instead just serve cake. Your guests will be just fine! If you're worried about it, have a cake with different favors to keep it interesting.

7. Sheet Cakes - When times are tough, you have to make the best choices. One of the easiest ways I have brides save money is by having their wedding cake, but not going overboard. For instance, instead of having a 6 tier cake to feed all of your guests, downsize to a 3 tiered cake and have sheet cakes prepared ahead of time in the back. The guests wont know the difference!

8. The Bar - Whatever you do, don't make your guests pay for their own alcohol. It's not worth it and it looks cheap. Instead, select a couple of options for your guests. Choose a beer, wine and a specialty drink and leave it to that!

For additional ideas on how to save money on your wedding, contact Natalie at The Bridal Solution. Weddings are expensive, but theirs no reason not to save where you can!

Happy Planning!
