2014 Wedding Trends via The Bridal Solution

So You're Engaged ... Congratulations!  What a FUN and Exciting time!
As you probably know, wedding trends come and go and when you're planning your wedding almost a year out, you should know what upcoming trends will be around when you wedding date actually arrives!

Stay current and check out what we beileve will be the newst, upcoming trends for your wedding!
Isn't nice to know you have Insider Secrets and can plan a wedding your guests will LOVE and be talking about for years to come?!

2014 Weddings Bridal Trends
 By: Natalie Imhoff, CWP
Owner & Event Stylist of The Bridal Solution, llc.

While rustic chic seemed to be the bridal trend of 2013, the New Year marks a return to more elegant affairs. That means good-bye to DIY and a return to sophisticated décor.
Brides are beginning to think outside of the box, channeling their inner Martha Stewart when it comes to proper etiquette and traditions. And we couldn’t be more thrilled. A conversation starter, trends should fuel your creativity in an effort to find what works or you. The most memorable weddings are always a reflection of the bride and groom, so incorporate the trends that match your style and personality.  Even if it’s a more formal event your guests should always feel comfortable and natural at your wedding.
Here’s what we predict 2014 will bring for brides-to-be around the country and right here in Mid Missouri. Happy Planning.

1.  Tradition takes Center Stage – Weddings aren’t going back in time, but they are moving from casual to classic. Think “Weddings meet “Downton Abbey,” the popular PBS period drama set in the early to mid 1900’s where dinner means black tie attire for the men and women.

2.  Intimate Weddings – Instead of inviting everyone they know to their weddings, brides are opting for smaller, more intimate celebrations. Wedding Brunches, which have been a hit on the East and West Coast, will also hit the Mid-West this year. These daytime events usually begin around 10:30 or 11:00 a.m. and last only a few hours. Sometimes the wedding occurs before the brunch, occasionally after. This event allows the couple to spend time that evening with their friends and out-of-town guests for a night on the town.

3.  Catering – A Culinary Experience – Buffets will take a back seat this coming year to plated, portion-controlled styled faire.  It’s all about appealing to “foodies,” where the food must taste as good as it looks. Food stations such as a sushi or mac-n-cheese bar will be a huge hit and brides will include wine pairings to compliment the cuisine.

4.  Hashtag “ #Weddings” – It’s no coincidence that weddings will be more in tune to social media this year.  In fact, it’s already happening.  Brides are “branding” their weddings, incorporating hashtags and short videos on their big day allowing their guests to both follow and be a part of the action throughout the evening.

5.  Doughnuts are the New Cupcake – Cupcakes will still be around for sure, but brides are beginning to mix it up with custom made wedding doughnuts, complete with monograms, colors and flavors matching the wedding cake.  A Doughnut Bar with flavored icing, sprinkles and jelly allows guests to have fun creating their own concotion.  Some brides hire a company to make the doughnuts on site in front of their guests. are even having the doughnuts made on site in front of their guests.  This is a fun twist that your guests will be talking about for days to come!  The Bridal Solution incorporates Doughnuts and other items within their “Signature Bar” selections.

6.  Dueling Pianos – Make a splash by incorporating Dueling Pianos, the next best thing for bridal entertainment. Your guests will be sure to dance the night away to music that’s similar to using a DJ or live band.  Bring out lounge furniture, add some lighting and make your guests feel they just entered a club for a night out on the town.

** All ideas and predictions are rights of The Bridal Solution

Enjoy your Wedding ... WOW your guests and LOVE every minute of it!

TBS Blog Contributor: Meet Morgan

Morgan Gray is a writer from New York whose sister recently asked her to be the maid of honor to her wedding. The experience has left Morgan so inspired and all the more knowledgeable on everything wedding planning, which is why we have featured her on The Bridal Solution, as one of our Blogger Bridesmaid Contributors! You can find her on her blog, Gray & Gabbana.

Maid of Honor Tips - Making Her Wedding Stress Free

Wonderful news: I’ve been asked to be my sister’s maid of honor. Am I excited? Of course, couldn’t be more so. But, there is an unbelievably strong desire, within the both of us, to make everything perfect. Read: stress. I believe, however, that this wonderful time doesn’t need to be ridden with so much anxiety. Let me share a few tips on how I helped my sister have the most beautiful wedding possible with as little stress as possible.

Make a List

(Flickr.com)

Never underestimate the importance of making a list! This is particularly important if the wedding is coming up quick and you don’t have a lot of time. Fortunately, my sister’s wedding is more than nine months away, allowing me more time. Using a 3-ring binder, I made my sister a wedding to-do booklet. The booklet, which consisted of about 25 pages, listed everything that needed to be done, from sending out save-the-date cards and booking venues right to the actual wedding ceremony and reception. Each page had specific details about who pays for what, how far in advance things should be done, etc. If it was part of a wedding, it was in the book. This way we had everything in one place and could easily reference everything to make sure we were on schedule.

Gift Registries – Gift Giving Made Easy
Gift registries are widely used because it makes gift buying easy for guests, while also ensuring the happy couple are getting what they need and want and not in duplicate. However, making a gift registry can be very time-consuming. My sister has a million other things on her mind and making a gift registry was last on it. Luckily, she and I are close in style and interests so I could take an educated guess at what she wanted and needed in the way of gifts, and she completely trusted me to choose a collection of wedding gifts online as her bridal shower registry. For the wedding registry, I chose her favorite stores, went to their websites and printed out a “mock” registry for my sister’s approval. She added a few items to it, eliminated things she really didn't want and returned it to me for the final draft. In a matter of minutes, she had her gift registries ready for the bridal shower and the wedding.

Bridal Shower
For years there have been debates as to who makes the bridal shower. Some feel it’s the mothers of the couple, while others think it’s friends of the couple. Why not have the bridal party all pitch in? You, as maid of honor, should be in charge of the shower and direct others as to who does what and when. For my sister’s shower, the entire bridal party (there were eight of us) pitched in so I wouldn’t have the entire financial burden. Family members came to help us decorate and it turned into a beautiful affair. The bridal party sets the tone for the wedding so it’s not something that should be overlooked.

Final Preparations
The one thing we all know is that in even the best–planned events things can go wrong. As maid of honor, it is your responsibility to double check all the little details so your friend doesn’t have to. I took over the task of being the contact person for everyone involved in the wedding (e.g. pastor, caterer, florist, venue, DJ, limousine service). If they had a question, they contacted me. After it was all said and done, my sister told me she appreciated that more than anything else I had done. The only thing I wanted my sister to have to worry about was looking beautiful as she walked down the aisle. Being a maid of honor is no easy task but there was nothing more rewarding than when my sister told me how impossible the wedding would have been if it wasn't for me.

The Bridal Solution's Perfect Patriotic Party 2013

Did you know the number of Americans who will spend the Fourth of July holiday at other people's homes is approximately 41 million? That is some major entertaining going on!

Are you planning to invite guests over or will you be one of the 41 million attending the festivities elsewhere? Either way, I am sure there will be a lot of grilling going on!

If you're anything like me, you probably need some new and fresh ideas for this years Holiday.

Here are my 5 tips for a Fabulous Fourth!

Tip #5:
Start your planning with a buffet menu, one that can easily be set up and taken down. You will want to include barbecue favorites that you can easily prepare ahead of time. Items like coleslaw, fruit salad and homemade ice cream. I like to do all of my prep work ahead of time, either the day or night before the 4th. This includes shucking corn, marinating chicken and ribs and slicing some homegrown strawberries. Curious what we are serving this year?

The Bridal Solution's EASY Make - Ahead 4th Menu:

Spicy Honey Glazed Chicken Breasts
Smoked BBQ Ribs
Potato Salad
Grilled Corn with Parmesan Butter
Coleslaw
Bourbon Baked Beans
and Strawberry/Angel Food Cake Skewers
Homemade Ice Cream

All of these items can be prepared the day before, except for the grilling and warming of baked beans. Like I said, easy peasy!

Tip #4:
Pick your drinks! Don't feel like you have to offer everything, just choose a few and go with it. Use drink dispensers on the buffet line, something for the adults and something for the kids. Try pre-mixing margaritas or sangria and lemonade, or iced tea. No matter what, be sure to have plenty of water available, especially if you and your guests will be out in the heat most of the day. Here's Natalie's favorite margarita recipe everyone will LOVE!

Ingredients:
1 (6 ounce) can frozen limeade concentrate
6 fluid ounces tequila
2 fluid ounces triple sec

Directions:
Fill blender with crushed ice. Pour in limeade concentrate, tequila and triple sec.
Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.

Tip #3:
Set the Table! Trust me on this one, you don’t' need anything fancy. Little items can go along way if you use them right. For instance, instead of buying or using a blue, red and white linen, stick to one color. You can add little pops of color elsewhere to get the effect you're looking for. Try even a rustic natural look on the table. Add pops of color like using vintage red lanterns, a few charger plates and bundles of flatware for easy pick up. Don't forget the lighting. The lanterns will add a little, but try to use some additional lights if you are staying outside for fireworks. I suggest uplighting trees and using galvanized buckets with bamboo to string globe lights on. This will create an intimate setting your guests will not want to leave!

Tip #2:
Don’t forget to accommodate your guests and provide entertainment. This can be as easy as creating a soundtrack and playing it through speakers from your iPod, to providing games for your guests to play. The Fourth of July is all about being outside with company, so why not get a game of crochet or volleyball going. Games like washers or beanbag toss is great too.
I always love to add a few items around the house to accommodate my guests. Either a tray with flavored water, chocolate mints in the bathroom, anything to make them feel more like home. It’s all about the little details!

Tip #1:
Plan for the Fireworks. If you are one of the lucky ones who are able to watch them from your house, then set up a special viewing area. Bring out blankets and large pillows to create a comfortable viewing area. Can’t see them from your house? No biggie? Set up just as you would outside – inside! Last year it was so warm we all moved indoors, turned out all the lights [except for the TV] and created stars on the ceiling, just like if we were outside. It was perfection! The perfect watching fireworks treat? Our family tradition of course! Treat your guests to homemade ice cream root beer floats …yummo!

The Bridal Solution's Top 5 Tips for Hosting a Super Bowl Party

Hosting a Superbowl Party this year? Create a one-of-a-kind event that will WIN over your guests!

The Bridal Solution's Top 5 Super Bowl Party Tips:

1.  Set the Scene
That's right, get cheesy with it!  The Super Bowl is supposed to be fun and festive, so don't forget about the little details.  Create the atmosphere at home, with a few simple ideas.  Cut astro turf for coasters or create turf coozies for drinks.  Set your table up like a football field by adding yard lines.  My favorite is our famous "buckets of beer" option.  Get a galvanized bucket and fill with beer and Ice, just like you would get at the game itself.  Wrap your coffee table in contact paper, leave chalk and allow your guests to drawl up what they think the winning play will be!  Pass out yellow flags when your guests arrive to get them involved in the calls, and most of all have fun!

2.  Don't Forget the Kids
Get the kids involved.  Have special drinks and food set aside for them and a small tattoo station with team logos, so they can show their support too!  They may not be too interested in the game, but drawl their attention to the arts and crafts!  Last year we put on the Little Giants movie, and we could hear them cheering from the next room.

3. It's all About the Food
Some people go to Super Bowl parties just for the food alone.  Have plenty of options for your guests.  Everything from wings in different flavors, to hot and cold dips, finger foods and mini comfort food options.  Mini sliders, mini dogs and mini fries always seem to be a hit.  And for the kids - build your own nachos!
It's all about presentation!

Have a dessert bar with easy to eat sweets. Mini cupcakes, cake pops made to look like footballs with your team logo, and fruit with cream.

4.  Commercials and Games
More interested in the Super Bowl Commercials?  Create a game around them.  Which ones do everyone think will create the most buzz?  Keep tally, re-enact or just sit back and relax.  On things for sure, there will be some guests who are more excited about the game, and those who are more excited about the commercials.

5.  Good Friends + Good Food =
If you have good friends, and you have plenty of food and drink, you're going to have one heck of a good game!  Grab your loved ones, grab a seat, and get ready for the game which over 90 million people celebrate EVERY year!  Good Friends + Good Food [and drinks] = Great Game!

Enjoy!

I first want to thank everyone who joined in our LIVE Teleseries call last night titled: From Yes to I Do - Wedding Photography.  We had a great turnout and some really information Q&A's!  If you missed it, don't worry, the replay will be available next Tuesday.  We will continue this series next month as well, so join in next time if you haven't already!
So today I wanted to go over my top questions to ask your potential wedding photographer.  It is so important to ask the right questions, I can't stress that enough!  So ... I know you're all dying to find out ...
The Bridal Solution's Top 5 Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer Before You Book

5.  What is a Typical Wedding Day Like with You as a Photographer?
You will want to make sure you photographer captures the important moments with you.  You'll want an ease and flow to your wedding day, and you'll need to make sure your photographer is on board as well.  Go ahead, ask them what a typical wedding day is like for them!  If they are experienced, this will be an easy question!
4.  Will You be Shooting My Wedding Alone, or Will You Have A Second Photographer With You?
If it's in your budget, you most certainly want a second photographer their the day  of your wedding.  There is no possible way a single photographer can get all the important images.  Just think, do you want to choose between a photo of you walking down the aisle, or  your grooms face when he first sees you?  I didnt' think so!  Make sure there are at least 2 with you for the majority of the day!  You can thank me later! :)
3. What All is Included in Your Wedding Packages?
This question is important because you'll need to budget for photos.  When a photographer prices is lower than their competitors, you'll have to wonder.  Is it due to experience or is it that they are pricing on an a la carte option?  The longer the photographer has been in the business, the more experienced and educated they are.  Most likely, their price will show that.  If the photographer is basing everything a la carte, then you could be paying a higher price in the end.  There are a lot of back end pricing when it comes to photography, so it's better to get an upfront cost and ask what all is included at the very beginning!
2.  Do you Direct or Document More?
Basically you are wanting to figure out if the photographer likes to take more photos that are posed or more candid shots. It could be that they do a little bit of both.  Whatever they say, make sure their styles fits with your vision for wedding photos.

1.  Do You Carry Backup Equipment and Insurance for Each Wedding?
This is a must!  You want to make sure that they carry the equipment necessary to capture your day, and that they back it up.  Not a month after your wedding, but SOON after your wedding.  Can you seriously imagine having no weddings photos?  Make sure to ask this MOST important question!
If you would like more information or would like to schedule a meeting to discuss your upcoming wedding or event, please email us at natalie@thebridalsolutionllc.com

The Bridal Solution's Top Things Brides Should Do During the Holidays

Happy Holidays!  Thank you all for making 2012 a year to remember!
Highlights of 2012:
1. Bridal University [coming back February 2014]
3. Traveling to Texas for a Texas-Sized Wedding!
4. Ringing in the New Year with STYLE!
It seems like the holiday's come faster and faster each year.  They sneak up on us, and by the time Christmas arrives, we are left in a whirlwind.  I know for me, the tasks I wanted to complete by New Year's are still on my desk untouched. AND, I bet you're feeling the same way.  In fact, how many of you put your wedding plans on the back burner over the break?  Instead, The Bridal Solution has come up with great tips to keep you having fun on the holidays and get your wedding plans on track!
The Bridal Solution's Top 5 Things Brides Should Do Over the Holiday's

5.  Throw a Wedding Party Soiree
Chances are you'll be hanging out with your close friends anyways during the holidays. Whether you are headed back to your hometown or ringing in the new year, celebrate your engagement with some or all of your Wedding Party!  It's a great chance to get them all together and introduce them if they haven't met before.  Most likely, they will be thrilled to start celebrating the wedding festivities early!

4.  Start Gathering and Organizing Address
If you're sending out Christmas Cards over the holidays, you might as well start collecting the addresses of guests.  Especially if you plan on sending out save-the-date cards.  Get both families involved too!

3. Shop
Yep, you heard right!  SHOP!  Do you know how many great deals go on during the holidays?  Go ahead, buy your wedding party gifts early, and check something off of your checklist!  Last year one of our brides scored monogrammed robes for each of her bridesmaids for only $10 each!  What a steal!

2. Menu Tasting
If you are not sure what you'll be serving for your reception dinner, why not test it out over the holiday's with your family and fiance?  Check out different restaurants who caterer, and pick and choose items on the menu that may pair well together.  You may be surprised what you come up with!

1. Hair & Makeup
Try out different hair styles and makeup techniques before you go to a holiday party!  We all go to so many celebrations, it's the perfect time to try them out.  Figure out what you like, and what would be easy to duplicate for your wedding day.  It's a win-win!

TBS Featured: HER Magazine November 2012

Yesterday HER Magazine hit the shelves here in Jefferson City, Missouri.  It's their annual Bridal Issue, and I had the pleasure of helping with a few stories they ran.

I LOVE the way it turned out.  HER Magazine is a female-focused publication, and this month it's all about Weddings ... our favorite!

The Bridal Solution helped with a story titled: Stretching Your Bridal Budget,  we love the way it turned out!

One of our Weddings was also featured in this issue ... you may remember Sarah & Andy's Wedding

You can find more about their wedding HERE.

Make sure you pick up your own copy of HER Magazine when you're out-and-about,
you'll be glad you did!

Happy Planning!
